mi Centro BK supports all kinds of projects from weekly classes, to monthly series, to one time events! We support events in arts, culture, education, and public health. Past events have included a popular community storytelling hour, a not-so-still life drawing class, a Doula-led educational session and so much more. So what does it look like to get involved with the community through mi Centro BK?

Classes

MÚSICA Y CANCIONES

Carolina approached us with an idea…

“Hi I have a music class I’d like to do!” So… what happened next?

Carolina approached us with her proposal for a Spanish language immersion music class for young children. She was looking for support to further develop this, so we went to work! Beyond opening up and organizing one of our dynamic spaces to suit her needs, we collaborated with Carolina every step of the way to brand and market her classes, find her audience, and develop her social media following. Carolina’s class is now one of our most popular events!

Pop Up Events!

PORTRAIT STUDIO

Clarence approached us with an idea…

“I’m a photographer looking to expand my audience” So…what happened next?

Clarence is a professional photographer. Beyond giving him the space to do his practice, we brainstormed with him and organized a portrait pop-up studio, as well as developed an accessible tiered price list with add on options. The event was completely sold-out.

“I am so thankful for Mi Centro generously providing me with the space and materials to host free weekly yoga classes for our community. I was deeply moved by the selflessness and open-mindedness of the Mi Centro staff. It is clear to me how committed they are to serving their neighborhood and hospitably welcoming every collaborator that aligns with their cause. We all have something to learn from the diligent and inspiring way they run their programming.“

“Mi experiencia con Música y Canciones en Mi Centro BK ha sido de gran satisfacción. Tener acceso a un espacio tan completo y lleno de vida ha hecho que mis clases alcancen los objetivos que busco con ellas, acercarme más a la comunidad y reforzar el sentido de esta en un barrio tan diverso como lo es Bed-Stuy. El trabajo y esfuerzo que existen detrás del Centro invitan a querer realizar mis clases con amor y dedicación”.

Carolina Lamiell

“mi Centro BK has given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people in Brooklyn that are not just interested in learning Spanish but want to build community and genuine connections. I've made and continue to make good friends in my classes.

The Mi Centro team is quick and efficient, I appreciate the flexibility we work with, it all feels NOT like a work place in the best way, and when it needs to be it is as well.
